Rio’s Floating Christmas Tree Lighting

The Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree which stands 279 ft. tall, is the largest floating Christmas tree in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. Back for its 15th straight year, it was illuminated yesterday preparing for Rio’s celebration of Christmas. The Christmas tree is set afloat during the holiday season in the middle of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon in Rio de Janeiro.

Followed by a spectacular event open to the public and attended by Brazilian singers including Milton Nascimento, Simone and Ivan Lins. Actor Edson Celulari was once again the master of ceremonies.

Starting this Sunday and running through Epiphany on January 6, the Christmas tree will be lit up daily at 7:30 pm. The tree has a total of 15 sequential patterns of lights and colors illuminated by 105 kilometers of lighted strands, 3.3 million miniature bulbs and 2,100 strobes that simulate twinkling stars. This year’s theme is “A History of Reunion”.
